CAA were honoured to be invited to Scotland’s Politician of the Year Awards as guests of Thompsons Solicitors. The evening was a great success, with First Minister, Alex Salmond, picking up the coveted Politician of the Year award. CAA were delighted to be seated alongside Johann Lamont MSP, who was very supportive of the work we do at CAA.
However, the evening held much more significance and poignancy this year as a special presentation of the campaigning award was made posthumously to Frank Maguire. The award was given in recognition of Frank’s tireless work in fighting for justice for workers’ rights and on behalf of those afflicted by asbestos related disease. The award was collected by Frank’s wife Fiona and his son Callum who received a standing ovation from the audience.
Thompsons partner Patrick McGuire vowed that the firm would carry on campaigning against injustice in memory of Mr Maguire. Recalling Mr Maguire’s belief in the power of law to change people’s lives for the better, he said that society “needs Frank’s campaigning spirit more than ever”.
He added: “That’s why Thompsons will never stop making the case for workers’ rights, better health and safety and access to justice for the victims of injury and industrial disease.
Society needs Frank’s campaigning spirit more than ever. Frank was an inspirational campaigner and an example to us all.
