First Minister, Alex Salmond stated:Badge launch 1

I am delighted to give my support to this worthy cause.  It is important that we recognise the effect that exposure to asbestos has had on our nation’s health and it is only right that there is a national badge that we can wear to recognise the hundreds of families who have lost a loved one from an asbestos condition.

I welcome the opportunity to launch the Clydeside Action on Asbestos badge, alongside the First Minister, recognising their efforts in supporting sufferers of asbestos related conditions. I am proud to show my support for Clydeside Action on Asbestos and will continue to work on their behalf in any way I can.

Phyllis Craig MBE, Chair of CAA

“The Scottish Parliament has consistently improved the rights of people living with an asbestos related disease in Scotland; the way that compensation is calculated following the death of a loved one has been simplified and is less intrusive, the rights of family members to pursue compensation following the death of loved one from mesothelioma has been introduced, and of course the right to pursue compensation for pleural plaque in Scotland became law in 2009.”  Phyllis further stated:

We are delighted that, yet again, the First Minister, Stuart McMillan, Bill Kidd and members from all parties across the Scottish Parliament have shown their support for those diagnosed with an asbestos related condition in Scotland.  On behalf of all our members, we would like to thank them for their commitment and I’m sure we will all continue to work together to improve the quality of life for all those affected by the legacy of asbestos use in Scotland.

b3The CAA lapel badge is available from CAA support group meetings and at our office in Glasgow for £1. Please show your support for all those whose lives have been devastated by asbestos related disease. All money raised helps CAA fulfil the Charity’s aims.

  • To campaign for, and provide support to, those diagnosed with an asbestos related disease and their families
  • To identify and address the unmet needs of those affected by a diagnosis of an asbestos related disease
  • To ensure that individuals and families have the resources and information to improve their quality of life
