Aberdeen Mesothelioma Day 2011

Aberdeen Mesothelioma Day

On Friday 1st July 2011 Clydeside Action on Asbestos/Aberdeen hosted an event at the Town House for patients and carers to mark Action Mesothelioma Day.  The event was brought to Aberdeen because of the substantial increase in asbestos related cases, and to provide people information to those with mesothelioma on the best way to manage their condition.  The information was provided by consultants from local hospitals and hospices.

At the event a commemorative plaque was presented to the family of the late Bill Gove, who lost his battle to mesothelioma on the 1st April 2011.  Not only did this family lose their father, but their grandfather also died of mesothelioma in 1986.  The Gove family have since made tremendous efforts to fundraise for the charity and are therefore to be commended for taking the time to assist others who have been diagnosed with this horrendous condition.

The day was a great success with support from the Lord Provost Mr Peter Stephen and local MPs and MSPs.

Clydeside Action on Asbestos would like to thank all those who attended, all guest speakers, Aberdeen City Council and the Gove family who presented the charity with a cheque for £5,719.01.
