International Workers’ Memorial Day (#IWMD20): A Minute’s silence to remember.

Every year on April 28th we commemorate International Workers’ Memorial Day (#IWMD20).

We remember those who have lost their lives at work, or from work-related injury and diseases and renew our efforts to come together to prevent more deaths, injuries and disease as a result of work.

The Theme for 2020 is Coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic affects every worker regardless of sector or locality. Tens of thousands of workers worldwide have died. More have fallen ill or continue to go to work risking their lives. Many workers are still attending work ill-equipped and without necessary safety measures in place.

We could not have a starker reminder of the important role of trade union health and safety reps in saving and protecting workers’ lives, than the current crisis we are living through. TUC

Action on Asbestos (formerly Clydeside Action on Asbestos) would like to commemorate all those who have died, going to work each day to help others live.

Our charity would normally be hosting its annual memorial in Aberdeen at Johnstons Garden in respect of all those asbestos conditions who have died needlessly because of the negligence of others.  Today, we will uniting with others around the world to observe a minute’s silence at 11.00am to remember all those who have lost a loved one.

Action on Asbestos would like you to know that our charity is united with you always, but especially today when we would all have been together publicly to recognise our loved ones.

Please know that we are with you today…. And always.

If you have been affected by a work related disease or injury, please get in touch.
