25 yearsClydeside Action on Asbestos (CAA) is a registered charity which was formed in 1984 to provide advice and assistance to those who suffer from asbestos related disease and their families. CAA is widely credited as being the first asbestos support group in the UK and in 2009 we celebrated 25 years of service.  The charity has a well established reputation for providing expert advice and information, and for campaigning on behalf of those affected by asbestos related disease. We are both proud and privileged to represent the victims of asbestos.

According to figures from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) more than 2000 people per year in the UK are diagnosed with mesothelioma (a form of cancer overwhelmingly caused by exposure to asbestos). There are also at least a further 2000 cases of lung cancer which are also likely to be caused by asbestos exposure. The numbers of those diagnosed with fatal conditions are set to rise in the future. We exist to campaign for, and provide support to, those individuals and their families

Scottish Politician of the Year - CAA in the HeraldIn 2008, our tireless campaigning on behalf of those with an asbestos related disease was recognised when CAA received the coveted Public Campaign of the Year award at the Scottish Politician of the Year ceremony. The charity operates within a dynamic social, economic and legislative environment and responds to changes that adversely affect people with an asbestos related disease as they occur. The overall aim of CAA remains however that of the founding members of the charity:

  • To campaign for, and provide support to, those diagnosed with an asbestos related disease and their families
  • To identify and address the unmet needs of those affected by a diagnosis of an asbestos related disease
  • To ensure that individuals and families have the resources and information to improve their quality of life
